Dozens killed in Iraq bombings

A wave of bombings has rocked the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, and a northern village, killing at least 39 people and wounding more than 70, security and medical officials have said. Two of the bombs exploded on Sinaa street in central Baghdad, two more in Husseiniyah near the city, and one each in Baghdad Jadida and Maamal in the capital's east and Dura in its south. The late afternoon and evening attacks follow a bombing earlier in the day in Mosul in country's north that left at least 15 dead.Violence in Iraq has reached a level not seen since 2008, when the country was just emerging from a brutal sectarian conflict. The bloodshed, which has included sectarian attacks, has raised fears of a relapse into the intense sectarian bloodshed that killed tens of thousands of people during 2006-2007.With the latest attack, more than 370 people have been killed so far this month, and more than 5,050 since the beginning of the year, according to AFP figures based on security and medical sources.
